QUARTZITE, SO RESISTANT THAT I DO NOT NEED TO WATERPROOF?

16 July 2020

Quartzite is a rock known for its resistance, being composed of 80% or more of quartz, one of the hardest minerals that exists. However, the hardness of a rock is directly linked to its resistance to scratch other materials, not exempting it from proper waterproofing! Its porosity on the polished face of the plate is very low, but on the sides, where the pores are more open, the absorption is high, which may imply on water spots that are very visible in the material! Considering all the risks involved in the process, waterproofing must always be done both on the face and on the side.
